Avondale ESD is proud to offer the Chief Science Officers Program for students in sixth - eighth grades.  This program empowers students in STEM and advocates for student voice and innovation.

Chief Science Officers (CSOs) are students who serve as STEM ambassadors and liaisons for STEM opportunities in our communities.

Our CSOs are elected to serve as STEM ambassadors for their schools and the district.  Activities include:

• Participating in the annual AzSciTech Conference Kick-off held at Arizona Science Center where they network and attend workshop sessions alongside community leaders, and other middle, high school, and college students 
• Providing hands-on activities in our Mobile STEAM Lab including helping students in our district prepare for the Westside Impact Regional Science and Engineering Fair and the Arizona Science and Engineering State Fair.
• Taking STEM to the streets from August to May, starting with the annual Bill Moore Days Parade in Avondale
• Participating in Arizona STEM Signature events like the JPL Days, NASA Girls in STEM, Barett-Jackson’s Gearing Towards the Future Automotive STEM Initiative, AESD Vex Robotics and Puzzle Rooms, Earth Day with Peter Pipers, Luke Days at Luke Airforce Base, STEMCITY at the Buckeye Air Show, The Science of Guinness World Records, Life on Edge with Jane Goodall and OceanX Explorers
• Arizona STEM Cabinet Meetings hosted at Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Grand Canyon University, Estrella Mountain Community College and WestMec
• Attending the AZSciTech year-long STEM Innovation Festival experiences and learning about crowdsourcing and making adaptive toys
• Participating in Agua Fria High School District’s annual STEMCON event
